HARRY POTTER INSPIRED ELF ON THE SHELF IDEAS
If you're planning an entire December of Harry Potter elf ideas, or your elf just wants to turn into Harry {or Hermione} for one night, this post has heaps of spellbinding ideas to help you muggles to pull off the most magical elf season ever.
Arrive with Harry Potter Advent Calendar
Any elf who knows their family is truly obsessed with Harry Potter will arrive with a special Harry Potter advent calendar. Countdown to Christmas each day by unveiling a new magical surprise each morning.
Harry Potter Elf Costumes
To help your elf get into character there are many Harry Potter elf costumes available that represent various scenes and famous sayings from the movies.
Find the Harry Potter elf costumes shown above here:
Hogwarts Letters
Recreate the iconic scene when Harry receives hundreds of letters to Hogwarts that come flying out of the fireplace and through the mail slot. You can get floating Hogwarts acceptance letters or get a printable School of Witchcraft and Wizardry pack that can be edited and includes the envelopes as well as letters.
Riding Hedwig
Before he learns how to control a Nimbus 2000, the elf can fly around by riding Hedwig, Harry's trusty pet owl.

Levitating Candles
Your elf can recreate the magic of the great hall filled with levitating candles by filling a room in the house with floating candles. The children will be amazed watching them flickering while they're suspended in thin air.
Sorting Ceremony
Find out whether your elf is meant to be in Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw at the sorting ceremony. You can get a miniature sorting hat here, or make one yourself from clay by following this tutorial.
Chocolate Frogs
The elves can bring chocolate frogs just like the one Harry gets off the trolley on Hogwarts Express. You can buy them individually at confectionary stores, or you can make your own with the Harry Potter chocolate frog mould that also comes with DIY boxes and wizard cards just like in the movies.
Levitating Noodles
It certainly looks like Elf Harry is proficient at Wingardium Leviosa since he can make a fork and noodles levitate in the air. To create a levitating feast you'll need to stick a skewer or two into half a potato and then balance the fork on top of the skewers. Place the cooked noodles over the fork so they fall into the bowl covering up the skewer. Add some oil to keep the noodles looking fresh.
Ministry of Magic

Ever wanted to visit the Ministry of Magic? While wizards and witches can access it via an abandoned red telephone box, it seems muggles need to go a more saturated route. Or perhaps the cheeky elf is simply trying to trick you.
Quidditch
Turn your dining room table into a quidditch field with the addition of 3 hoop goal posts at each end. Although quidditch is actually played with four balls, the golden snitch is arguably the most well known and associated with the game. You can make your own golden snitch using a Ferrero Rocher chocolate and golden snitch wings.
Turn kids into Harry Potter
Your elf can turn the kids into Harry Potter by drawing round glasses and a lightning bolt scar on their photos, or their actual faces. Make sure they use washable marker if it's on their actual faces.
Pin the nose on Voldemort
Forget pin the nose on the reindeer, the elves can have some real fun playing pin the nose on Voldemort. Create your own game using an image of Voldemort and some smaller nose images the elves can stick onto his face. Don't forget their blindfolds.
If your kids might be too scared of Voldemort you can always try this pin the scar on the wizard game and they can try to stick Harry's scar onto his face in the correct spot. Just make sure you print it out in a smaller size for elves.
Scavenger Hunt
The elf can lead the kids on a Harry Potter themed scavenger hunt around the house with this printable wizard scavenger hunt. Use the elf themselves as the prize at the end or leave some Harry Potter goodies like chocolate frogs or Bertie Bott's everything beans.
Wizard School Escape Room
If you have older children who still love the elf then try this wizard school escape room. The printable pack includes 10 different escape room clues that involve scavenger hunts, hidden messages and solving puzzles all themed around Harry Potter.
Harry Potter Elf Kit
If you want a few nights where everything is already sorted for you, get this Harry Potter themed elf kit that comes with 4 nights worth of set ups {or you can buy each night individually}. There's props for getting accepted into Hogwarts, being introduced to Hedwig, playing Quidditch or finding a Crux.
Harry Potter Accessories
While your planning your Harry Potter themed elf ideas you may find these accessories helpful for setting the scene.
