I designed this fishing Father's Day card using simple black and white images so that children can make their mark by colouring in all the elements with whatever colours they choose. I used a very generic fisherman with no facial features so he could easily represent any dad by changing the skin colour and adding in facial features.

The back of the card includes the quote Daddy's fishing buddy so it's gender neutral and can be used by girls or boys for their Dad. The inside of the card is blank so children can write their own message for Dad.

You will need:

  • Free card template {see below}
  • White cardstock or paper
  • Pens, pencils or crayons

blank fishing card template and coloured pencils.

1. Print out the card template. I recommend printing the template on white cardstock although it will work ok on paper if that's all you've got, however cardstock will be sturdier.

2. Get kids to colour in and decorate the card. Give children pens, pencils or crayons and let them colour in all the individual images however they like. We used brown, grey, yellow, orange and blue and left the face without any features. You could jazz up the card by adding a tiny googly eye to the fish being reeled in.

If Dad doesn't have black hair you can colour over it with another colour or glue some fabric on to represent his hair. If he's bald you can draw a hat on his head and colour it black to cover the black hair.

3. Fold the card in half. Once the front of the card has been decorated fold it in half along the horizontal dotted line in the middle of the page.

4. Fill in the inside of the card. If your children can write get them to fill in the inside of the card themselves with a message for Dad. If they're too young to write they can either draw their own picture inside the card, or you can write a message for them.

Father's Day fishing themed sayings:
