Mummy Must Have Review | Oopsie & Sophie the Giraffe

Up until bub was about 4 months old I'd never even heard of Sophie the giraffe. It was during a discussion about teething with one of my friends that I was introduced to the whole Sophie the giraffe phenomenon. Our babies had just started teething and we were discussing ways to ease their pain. I said I was getting some teething rings and my friend said she was getting Sophie. At first I thought it was an auto-correct mistake. I was like ummm... Sophie, what the? Then she replied with the giraffe... which lead to another what the moment from me. So of course I turned to Dr Google to work out what the hell she was on about. Little did I know at the time what a big part Sophie would play in our future.

Sophie the giraffe is a natural rubber teether, by French company Vulli, that's been keeping babies happy all over the world since 1961. Sophie is BPA free and Phthalates-free as well as being decorated in food paint which is completely safe for babies. Sophie's designed to stimulate all 5 senses in babies right from birth. In addition to being a teether Sophie also has a squeaker inside which makes noise when she's squeezed {bub has a field day squeezing her to death to make her "talk"}. Being made from natural rubber Sophie also has a distinctive feel, smell and taste.

Sophie's long legs have been specifically designed to help babies find relief in hard to reach places when they're teething. The ears, horns and bumpy face also provide different textured surfaces for babies to chew on to comfort sore gums.

Needless to say once I googled Sophie way back when bub was a few months old I had to have one. Sophie is seen as the rolls-royce in teethers and for good reason. Bub loved Sophie so much that we recently got another one {because the first one was so worn out} and she's been a godsend while her 2yr old molars are coming through let me tell you. 2yr old molars are the worst!! Now that she's older bub also loves to play with Sophie as a toy and makes her go walking all around the lounge room and, much to my dismay, also loves to step on her to make her squeak. She's still just as useful now as when bub was younger.

What I found out when I researched Sophie the giraffe is that there's not just the teether, there's a whole range of other Sophie the giraffe products. One of them is the super cute cutlery set. Being a "big girl" now, bub loves to feed herself and has done so for quite a while. We originally started out with soft plastic cutlery and in the last couple of months have moved onto proper metal children's cutlery sets.

The Sophie the giraffe cutlery set is a perfect first cutlery set for kids who are capable of feeding themselves. Its easy for bub to grip and she's really confident using the fork and spoon. She hasn't used the knife yet simply because she doesn't yet have the skills to cut food, but she'll certainly be using it in the future.

I love that the set has the cute little decorated handles. Bub loves pointing out Sophie and the bird to me. The metal parts are also quite smooth with no pointy edges so I have no hesitation with her using them by herself. The white handles also clean really well, even after she covers them in spaghetti. I just hand wash them, because I don't want to risk them fading in the dishwasher, and after a few months use they still look as new.

We got the Sophie the giraffe products from Oopsie which is an online children's boutique that specialises in natural and organic products. Oopsie sell natural baby bedding, sleeping bags, swaddles, nursery decor, furniture and electronics from leading brands. Oopsie have a large range of Sophie the giraffe products including bath toys, teethers, cutlery, gift sets and keepsakes which are currently on sale {we also have Sophie bath toys which bub loves}. Unlike many other online stores, they offer FREE SHIPPING Australia wide on ALL products and also have same day dispatch if you order before 3pm. If you've been thinking about getting Sophie for your place, now is the time to get her.

Do/did you have a Sophie the giraffe with your kids?

  1. Oh I LOVE Sophie. My youngest was given a Sophie teething giraffe and I've given many to friends who are having babies. I love that they're expanding the Sophie line. Funnily enough I had a rubber giraffe when I was a baby. Mum's not sure if it was a Sophie, but let's just pretend that it was ;) #teamIBOT
