Sleep - post baby

I used to have a great relationship with sleep. The only thing that really got in the way was work and the incessant beeping of the dam alarm each morning ordering me out of bed. I loved sleep. I wish we never broke up. Unfortunately cracks started forming in our relationship when I got pregnant and I was too exhausted to try and fix our relationship.

It started out slowly with subtle changes. I started waking up early. For some reason my body (and baby) wanted to be up bright and early in the morning. I don't know why, it's not like she could see the sunrise from inside my womb. Little did I know how many hours early mornings and I would spend together in the future. I've never been a morning person and I'm still not (yes I can hear you all asking "so why did you have a baby.."). As it turns out some of the lectures advice people gave me before birth turned out to be true. I should've tried to nap a lot more in those weeks pre-baby.

Once bub came along my relationship with sleep reached breaking point. There were way too many cracks, it was irreparable. In fact I think sleep cheated on me with T because they certainly spent a lot more time together than we did. Needless to say we pretty much broke up straight away. Although if sleep ever comes crawling back and asks to be forgiven I just might be weak enough to resume our relationship.

This is pretty much how our nights go now....

I'm pretty sure T's still having an affair with my beloved sleep.

Anyone else relate?

    1. I get about 5-6 hrs a night but not in a row. Although I don't think I'd be super energised to clean the house even if I did lol.

    1. Its funny if I give in and put her in my bed to go to sleep when she wakes up in the morning I pretend Im asleep and she tries to wake me up by either poking me in the nose or grabbing my face and moving it from side to side. Its annoying but cute (and better than waking up to screaming).

  8. I WISH! It was always the opposite in the FULLHALFGLASS household. I sleep as light as a feather while The Receptionist (bless her) could sleep through a bomb blast. IT WAS I NOT HER WHO WOULD GET UP.

Please don't tell her I said this as she still thinks that I never got up.

  9. SO true. My eldest just turned 13 yet I'm still sleep deprived. I hope it improves for you. xo

  10. Love the way you have written this and love that cartoon!! I guess one of the perks of being single with no kids is that, unless the possums decide on a midnight party (which happens a little too often for my liking!) sleep and I are in a deep committed relationship and at the moment I am more than ok with that!!

  11. That cartoon is so despicably true - why is it so?

  12. HAHA so true. My husband can sleep through our daughter cry ALWAYS! I know it sounds weird but I've gotten to the point that as long as I get some sleep (and a lot of coffee) I'm fine - I actually like all the "extra" hours I have in my day (and night).

    1. Mine can sleep through ANYTHING, but especially the baby crying. I wish they were wired like us so he could feel as exhausted in the morning.

  14. Sadly I have been an insomniac all my life. On the other hand, my entire family, including baby, sleep like...babies. I feel SO ripped-off!

  15. Yes to all of that! #1Hubby and I now compete over who most convincingly pretends to be asleep longest, before the other one gives in and gets up to the kids in the middle of the night. I miss sleep. One day we will be reunited!

  17. Sleep is for the weak!! I am at the end of the no sleep thing (hopefully!!). I would no sooner get sleep back and then another baby came along!! Fingers crossed that barring the night terror stage sleep will once again be my friend!!!
Men suck. Mine hears nothing either!!

  19. The men - they hear nothing until you're not there. Then they're all like 'the baby woke up three times last night'. And you're like 'ah yeah, she does that EVERY night!'

  20. Love this! My husband would always tell me how good our son slept and then he'd be surprised when I told him how many times he actually got up. Lol silly men!

  21. haha, ya know, I always hated when people would be like, "sleep now while you can." You know what? Because I napped more often 3 months before the baby was born is not going to help on the back to back nights that I have to be up all night haha. It's not like stored sleep energy! I'm with you. Just had twins two weeks ago and sleep & I have broke it off as well. Maybe... just maybe I'll accept his apology down the road. Visiting from SITS ShareFest. Great to have found you. :)

    1. I wish it could be stored up though how cool would that've been. I feel for you having twins, I can't even imagine. My friend has twins and a three year old and she deals with it surprisingly well. I think I'd be a mess.

  22. Ha, ha, ha! That skit is hilarious! Although my daughter is a good sleeper by baby standards, I still have a broken relationship with sleep as well. Instead of my child waking me up, it's my body. Gah! We're obviously having a difference in opinion at the moment, but I am oh so ready to take sleep back. (Stopping by from SITS Girls Sharefest)

  23. I can totally relate. With a toddler and 6 month old I don't remember the last time I slept a full night. Hang in there thou, it gets easier. Sleep will come crawling back to you. Stopping by from the Sits Share fest.

  26. Thankfully our baby is sleeping fully through the night now (although she does wake up in the middle of the night from time to time for no apparent reason as babies sometimes do)... but this comic strip is spot on during those long nights in the earlier months when baby was keeping me up all night. And the next morning, hubs wakes up as fresh as a daisy and declares happily "WOW! Baby slept through all night!". How would babies ever survive alone with men (and their selective hearing)... I suppose that's why God made mothers!

  27. Oh yes, this is exactly me. except for at the moment it goes, bed at 10:18pm, head hit the pillow and then I hear "wahhhhhhh". EVERY.SINGLE.NIGHT.

5 weeks until sleep school!! BRING.IT.ON!
