52 WEEKS OF MEMORIES

My love of photography has drawn me to photo challenges over the past few years, the only problem is that I'm usually not disciplined enough to stick to the ones that require a photo every day. Usually work would get in the way and by the time I got home it was dark and too late to get a photo of the prompt. And to be honest other days I just totally forgot. Nevertheless I am still drawn to photo challenges because of the sense of community and the desire to be creative. So, in order to overcome my inability to stick to them and still satisfy my desire to capture creative memories, I decided to create my own photography challenge project. The challenge was originally going to be a one off project in 2014, but due to popular demand, I've been running it every year since then..

So, heres the rundown. My photo challenge is called 52 Weeks of Memories, because that's what we will all be creating. Yes that means it goes for a whole year, but don't give up and run away yet. There is only one prompt a week, which means only 52 photos in the whole year. I'm sure most people take more than 52 photos in a whole year so it shouldn't be a huge stretch to complete. And if you compare it to the photo a day challenges thats the equivalent of less than 2 months of photos. See, much easier than you first thought, right?

Here's the prompts and how to play...

To play along:

1. Follow the weekly prompt for your photo - you can be as creative or literal as you like.
2. Share your photo - there are many ways you can do this:
  • via Instagram, simply use #fmy52weeksofmemories
  • on the Finding Myself Young Facebook wall
  • on your own Facebook, just remember to use #fmy52weeksofmemories
  • via the 52 Weeks of Memories Facebook group {subscribe below for access}

I used my daughter as my "muse" for the 2014 challenge and tried to use her for all the prompts. It resulted in an amazing photographic record of how she had grown and changed throughout the year, which I made into a photobook. You don't have to use a muse or a theme for the photos like me, you can simply be inspired by the prompts themselves.

I'll be sharing my photos on Facebook and Instagram each week {using the #fmy52weeksofmemories}. Feel free to share photos on Instagram or Facebook any day during the week. You can also jump in and out as you have photos that suit the prompt, no pressure to play for the whole 52 weeks.

I've added an email list for the challenge which gives you access to the private Facebook group and weekly prompt reminders and inspiration. To join up simply fill out the form below.
