Mummy Must Have | Cheeky Chompers Neckerchew

You know the worst thing about having a baby? It's not the poo explosions - even on the days when they seem continuous. It's not the tantrums (although ask me again in a year's time and I might've changed my mind on that one). It's not even the sleep deprivation, because that ends at some point. Sure all those things are less than ideal, but the very worst thing about having a baby (at least in this household) is TEETHING.

Teething is the devil. Sometimes it quite literally turns my normally cute, cheeky, happy little girl into the devil. It turns her cute little gums into bright red raging mountains reminiscent of volcanoes that are about to erupt. It makes her decorate the floor, couch, bed and all her clothes with drool. It turns her into a ravenous, biting piranha who happily makes a meal out of my knees, shoulders, fingers and sometimes even my face. It makes her curl up in the foetal position covered in tears. Sometimes mummy even ends up curled up in the foetal position crying at the end of the day as well. Yep, teething is a bitch not nice.

The worst part about teething is seeing her in so much pain. Unfortunately bub teethes for a really long time before her teeth actually cut through. She started teething at 3 months and her first tooth didn't break through until she was 7 months old. They kept coming up and down under her gums for months. The poor thing had to put up with the pain and discomfort for so long. I thought it'd get better once she got her first few teeth, but it didn't. She got her first two teeth together at 7 months then didn't get another one until 12 months. Her bottom right side tooth came through, but her bottom left seems to be MIA. This last month shes had her 2 top teeth come through and now she has her top side teeth about to cut. So at the moment after 11 months of almost continuous teething shes still only got 5 teeth. Poor thing has been miserable for a while now so anything I can find to help relieve her discomfort is a most welcome addition to our household.

My latest tool in the battle against teething is the Neckerchew from Cheeky Chompers. The Neckerchew is a revolutionary bib developed in the UK which combines a dribble bib with a silicone teether in one. Its the perfect product for a teething baby or toddler. The soft bib soaks up all the incessant drool and the teether soothes her sore gums and is always close at hand for her to grab when needed.

The Neckerchew has a bandanna shape and is made from triple layered cotton which ensures that all the drool is caught and bub stays dry. She gave it a good work out as her two top teeth were breaking through and despite the huge amount of drool the back of the bib was still perfectly dry as were her clothes underneath. The jersey cotton is super soft and comfortable around her neck too so she doesn't mind wearing the bib for hours at a time. I only take them off at meal times because I don't want them to get covered in food like spaghetti (they're too pretty).

The bibs come in a number of different designs (see above) and they're fully reversible so its like having two bibs in one. They close either way with press studs and there's two different studs on each bib so they will last up until two years of age. She can still technically get away with using the smaller size, but doesn't like things too close to her neck so we use the larger size. Even though it hangs slightly below her neck it still catches all the drool thanks to the bandanna shape. We have the baby baby and cool pink bibs which interchange with almost all of her outfits so they're great value for money and super fashionable.

{Still looks cute even when she's busted being naughty}

Of course the best part about the Neckerchew is the awesome triangle shaped teether on the end of the bib. The teether has a special dimpled design incorporating raised circles and ridges to further help sooth sore gums. Its sewn onto the bib so theres no chance of it being dropped (or thrown) onto the floor and there's no need to turn the house upside down looking for it when you need it. Bub simply puts it in her mouth and chomps away as she pleases. It's phthalates free so is perfectly safe for babies to chew on and can be easily washed in the washing machine when needed. Bub certainly loves chomping away on hers. When her two top teeth were breaking through recently it was constantly in her mouth.

The Neckerchew is the perfect product for teething babies. The bibs are stylish, durable, practical, great value for money and they wash well in the machine. We've been using ours for a couple of weeks now and I can't fault them. I would highly recommend them to other mum's as not only do they help soothe bub, but they also help save our sanity too. Neckerchew bibs are available in Australia via Cheeky Chompers and at various boutiques.

Do you have a little teething monster at your place?

Disclosure - I was sent two Neckerchew bibs to trial. All opinions in this review are based on our experience with the product. I did not receive payment for this review.

  1. Sounds like I might have to get myself some of these. I think Zee is going to get some more teeth soon. She always seems to get them in the midst of a Wonder Week, which we are going through now, so it won't be long(Visiting on behalf of #teamIBOT today x)

    1. Yes Kylie I'm sure Zee would love them as much as Hayley does. I forgot all about the wonder weeks, but I think we must be near one about now because her sleeping has been disruptive and shes been throwing huge tantrums for no apparent reason.

  2. Pretty sure my 5 month old is suffering. He pulls at his ear constantly. I hope they come through pretty fast and not drawn out like your little cherub. Poor little possum. Love the cool teething bibs.

  4. What an excellent idea and what a gorgeous baby! I clearly had my kids twenty years too early as we had nothing as convenient back then. Just teething rings which were forever being dropped on the ground.

    1. The first thing I bought when I had her was an old school teething ring (because it reminded me of my childhood) and yes she dropped it a million times too. I was forever sterilising the thing. These are much easier and I'm so glad cool products like this exist these days.

  6. That is a really clever idea. Teething is seriously not fun. My first had a terrible time with it, while my second cruised through. I do fear though that we are going to have a time of it with the two year old molars. She's drooling heaps again and is quite miserable :(

    1. Yep it must hurt them heaps, shes cut two teeth in the last two days and there's been lots of sooking, crying, ear rubbing and BITING. Lots of biting and she locks on and doesn't let go, guess shes trying to pass on some of the pain to me. The bibs have been a lifesaver.
