The new little black dress

The little black dress - its a staple in every woman's wardrobe no matter what age. I've owned so many over the years. Majority of them following the same template - short, tight, uncomfortable, cant-bend-over-in-them but they looked shit hot! The last time I wore one of them was on our Sydney holiday in 2012 (where I incidentally got pregnant with our baby). The short, sexy type of little black dress has served me well over the years, but alas we had to part ways after I had said baby. It seems my hips grew wider. So, they sit in the wardrobe in the spare room until I decide I can bear parting ways with them.

I haven't given up on the little black dress though. It's just morphed into a different version. Perhaps it should be called the long black dress instead of the little black dress? I've always had a love of maxi dresses, even when I was wearing the pre-baby sexy little black dress, so its not a huge stretch for me to move from a short black dress to a long one. It also fits in with my new post baby lifestyle choices of wearing thongs everywhere and only shaving my legs every other day (whoops did I just admit that out loud).

My attempt at posing, hence why I'm not a fashion blogger!

Gone are the days of dressing to impress other people, now I dress for comfort and convenience. My new favourite little long black dress is the "Druguay" dress from Witjuti. Its made from organic bamboo which also happens to be my new favourite fabric. Seriously I'd have bamboo everything if I could. Its so soft! I fell in love with it when I got bamboo sheets for bub and I've been searching for bamboo items for myself ever since. Its great for clothing because I can simply wash it, dry it hanging on the line and put it on. No drycleaning required, unlike like my former little black dresses. It also goes great with my favourite accessories - my thongs and my baby!

With all the important accessories

Bamboo is also hypo-allergenic, highly breathable, stretchy and did I mention soft! My favourite part is the feel of the fabric against my skin. And the fact that it glides nicely over the currently-possibly-permanently wider hips I've acquired. Its great for lounging around the house, but also nice enough to wear out. Of course you could dress it up more with the right accessories (but Im kind of attached to mine at the moment).

If you'd like to experience the comfort and oh-so-super-soft feeling of bamboo clothing for yourself, you can get a huge range of men and womens styles at Witjuti. If you use the discount code FMY you'll get 10% off everything and theres free worldwide shipping too!

    1. I only found out about it after my daughter was born with her allergies and I started researching hypo-allergenic materials. So glad I discovered it because its so nice and has so many health benefits.

  6. I have always loved long skirts but gave them up years ago. My retirement (only 3 days into it) means I want a completely new non-teacher wardrobe. 3 of my friends are taking me to do that at the end of the summer. I will look for bamboo and the long look. Enjoy Sharefest.

  7. This dress looks super comfy! I too am all about comfort and would love this maxi but unfortunately I'm always way too short to pull off a maxi without having to go to added expense of getting it taken up. Oh and it looks great on you!

  8. Great dress! It's funny how our needs change once we have kids. Can I bend over in this outfit? Can I sit on the floor in this outfit? Can I chase a toddler who has bolted towards the street in this outfit? lol, and the fact that it looks great on you is a massive bonus :) Stopping by from mums take five x

    1. So true! At least with a maxi dress I can do all those things - I found out the hard way with shorter dresses earlier on!

  9. I wish I could carry-off a maxi. I am 5'4 and I look completely consumed by fabric wearing one! Plus baby would wipe her nose all over it like a big napkin! I am so jealous that you can wear thongs in Winter - SO JEALOUS!

  11. I don't think I have tried on anything bamboo. I will have to though, the softness sounds lovely.
The weather was freezing today, my leg hair probably saved me from getting hypothermia! lol

  12. Love the black dress...goes as a dress for anything...dress up or dress down. Easy to travel with and as bamboo is so soft it would slip in a corner of a bag. ...a bit cold for today though with our icy wind.

  14. I wish I could pull off a maxi dress, but I'm super short and just end up feeling swamped in the fabric, even with high heels. Thanks for linking up with my LBD challenge. Just love your LBD Style!
