Introducing Treasures nappies to Australia

I've mentioned before that when I had bub I was already obsessed with Winnie the Pooh, so naturally we've been using Huggies nappies from day one. I know I shouldn't buy nappies based on what's printed on them, but who can resist Pooh? To be honest it never crossed my mind to look into other brands. They've also been great for us. No nappy rash or adverse reactions since day one. Given her allergies and other skin reactions to date I haven't been game to rock the boat on the nappy front. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" always comes to my mind any time cheaper nappy brands are brought up in conversations with other mums.

However, when I was asked to product test a new brand of nappies that hasn't been available in Australia before, I couldn't resist. The young university student obsessed with product testing was re-awoken. In my uni days my flatmate and I would always jump at the chance to try out new products as soon as they were launched. We justified it as "research" because we were both marketing majors. So, for the last week bub has been road testing Treasures nappies under the guise of market research for mum.

Treasures have been a trusted nappy brand in New Zealand for over 30 years. They are committed to providing the most absorbent, comfortable and quality disposable nappy. Treasures are now being launched in Australia (through IGA supermarkets) and we've been lucky enough to be among the first to try them.

I'm not going to lie, I was a tiny bit apprehensive. The fact that bub very easily breaks out in hives had me concerned her skin might react to a change in nappies. The first day I kept peaking into the side of her nappy every fifteen minutes or so to make sure her skin was ok. I'm happy to report though that after five days she hasn't had one single reaction to the nappies.

When she was younger we would often have problems with leakage and the dreaded poo explosions overnight, meaning lots of nappy changes and disruption throughout the night. Now that she doesn't have any night time feeds we've been blessed with a good little night sleeper. She only really wakes if she has a soaking nappy or when shes teething. I was very interested to see how the Treasures nappies would fare overnight as bubs sleeps anywhere from 8-10 hours a night now so an absorbent nappy is a must in this house. I actually found them to be more absorbent than Huggies which was a nice surprise.

She also fit into the size 10-15kgs in these nappies when we need to go up to the 13-18kg size in Huggies. She should be in 10-15 based on her weight, but we've found we always need to go to the next size up because of her chubby little legs. The side tab part on Treasures is a lot thinner and softer so it fits around her chubby legs a lot better and doesn't leave red marks or creases on her legs meaning she can stick to her recommended size. I thought at first it might lead to leakage or broken tabs as the material is thinner, but we haven't had any problems with either.

Overall I can't fault these nappies and I'd definitely recommend them to other mums.

  2. They sound really great! Glad you've found something that works for you and your bub.
If I had a little one I'd definitely be entering the competition, but my only sleeping tip is to make sure you have a bedtime routine that helps settle them (eg: toilet, no TV before bed)

    1. I'm so pleased I was introduced to them. I don't normally shop at IGA so probably never would have found them myself. I think I'll be switching to them once my boxes of Huggies are used up.

  4. Our 2 year old still wakes once but it's because he's lost either his dummy or blankey. But all I could suggest is that they go to bed the same time each night and don't have too much sleep during the day. Once I cut down daytime naps my son slept better at night and slept in an extra hour and a half in the morning. Win! #SleepingTreasures

  7. I grabbed a pack at the supermarket. Less than a day later my daughter has a rash in the shape of the absorbent part o the nappy. My kids have sensitive skin and after a few days in Huggies they start to get small areas of rashes. I wouldnt waste money on them if your kids have sensitive skin.

    1. Wow, sorry to hear that! My daughter has relatively sensitive skin and she was ok with them (but she doesn't react to Huggies either). Its such a process of trial and error when it comes to nappies. Hope you find a brand that works for your daughter.
